The Epic Poker League’s first event of the year has wrapped up, and that means only one thing; updated rankings. Global Poker Index recently announced the top players in the world and how their current standings stack up against their previous rankings. Unlike most other “top player” charts the GPI does not work in 12 month increments, but rather 36 months. The top 300 players in the world that are EPL players are considered in this ranking. The top 10 of the 300 has not been switched up a lot, but there has been a bit of position shuffling in the top 10. Erik Seidel is the new leader, he moves up to 1st place from his previous position of 2nd. Jason Mercier got bumped out of first and put into second, but the margin is a little over 12 points, a relatively small difference. Eugene Katchalov, who was one of 2011’s players of the year is holding down the 4th position and has been playing some great poker recently.Jonathan Duhamel, who cannot seem to keep his name out of our poker news stories, jumped up 30 spots to 11th after his incredible performance at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Duhamel made it to the final table of two high-roller events and has started off the New Year with flying colors. Doing well in the PCA may not always bring good fortunes because last year’s High-Roller Champion Will Molson fell from 131st place to 296th, and almost off of the GPI altogether. Molson’s 165 spot tumble was by far the biggest of the updated rankings. After the Aussie Millions is over the updated GPI rankings will be very interesting to see. We will follow up on Duhamel’s current tear and let you know if Molson can hang on to his spot on the GPI. 3r5n5f
